DAVY LAD (7 yo)

Trainer: Mick O’Toole – saddled eight winners at the Festival. He also won the Irish 2,000 Guineas, Coral-Eclipse and Arkle Trophy in the same year (1979).

MIDNIGHT COURT (7 yo)
Won the first Gold Cup to return to Lambourn in 15 years. (The Gold Cup was run in April due to snow.)

Trainer: Fred Winter – The only man to both ride and train winners of the Gold Cup and The Champion Hurdle “a perfect gentleman” and “the most outstanding jockey of his time.”
